What do I need to do to get started?
It is FREE for roommates and tenants to start your membership with RentSelect.com. Start by clicking the "Sign Up" Link in the upper right corner of the webpage (or Click Here to be taken directly to the sign up page). You will need to complete a basic registration to use our services by providing your first name and email address, then selecting a password and whether you have a unit/room to rent or you are seeking a unit/room to rent. If you have a vacant property such as a house, apartment, condo or townhome, our pricing is very compelling to all our competitors, and especially any newspapers.
I registered my account, what is the next step?
Please make sure to confirm your account by checking your email, and clicking the appropriate link.
If you are seeking a unit or room to rent, you can either begin searching immediately or continue on to the control panel to complete your profile which allows people to see what you are seeking and particularly with roommate situations, increases the number of responses you will receive. Those who upload photos, and take the time to input the city and state you are interested in will receive much higher response rates.

The RentSelect.com Control panel is the central hub where all of your information is organized into logical groups so that you can add, modify or delete any information or content (such as a description or a photograph) which is associated with your RentSelect.com account. If you have a video hosted on any site such as YouTube, you may embed your video directly in your Control Panel at any time.

If you have a unit or room to rent, you should continue on to the control panel and complete your profile so that potential renters or roommates can view the complete details of your unit or room. If you do not provide that information, it will prevent a potential tenant from finding your listing and/or recognizing the full value of your unit or room.

How much should I expect to pay for this service?
RentSelect.com is a subscription based advertising service to help landlords get quality exposure for their rental properties at a significant value compared to other marketing avenues. Will my RentSelect.com membership automatically renew from month to month?
RentSelect.com will provide both an auto-renewing membership option and a non-renewing membership option. You may select either or switch between them at any time. Additionally, if you select an auto-renewing membership, an email will be automatically generated by our system reminding you that your account is set to auto-renew 15-days prior to the date of the billing event.
How do I cancel my membership?
You may cancel your membership to RentSelect.com at any time. You can either click "Suspend" on your control panel page to remove it from the search database, or email Support@RentSelect.com and we can delete your account entirely from our site.
How do I modify my profile?
If you are logged into the site, you should see a "Control Panel" link in the upper right corner (right below where it says "Hello [your name]!". Click on that link and it will take you to your account control panel where you can set or modify the details of your profile by clicking on the section which you wish to update.
Is my personal information kept private?
Absolutely! We do not sell or share your personal information with any other companies if you don't specifically opt-in to receive our partners' special offers. Please refer to our complete Privacy Policy for more information.
How do I FLAG an inappropriate profile?
If you think that there is a profile, image or content on RentSelect.com which violates our Terms of Use, please click the "Report Profile" link located to the right of the main profile image on the users profile. This will flag the profile and it's associated content for review by our Moderation team.

Inappropriate profiles, images or content may include; celebrity photos, nude or fake photos, hate language, commercial postings, advertisements for other websites, spammers and scammers. We have a zero tolerance for such items.

As soon as you "Report" a profile, we will investigate promptly and if the profile is found to be in violation of our Terms of Use, we will remove it.
Something on my profile was FLAGGED, what do I do?
If you feel this was flagged incorrectly, please email Support@RentSelect.com. We will be happy to examine and discuss the content in question. If content is found to be inappropriate, it will be removed from the site. This includes but is not limited to; video, picture or any written content.

Please use your best judgment when uploading items to your profile. If you have any questions as to what constitutes appropriate content please review our Terms of Use

If it is found that you are spamming other users, your profile will be deleted from the site. Even if you have paid to list your profile on this site. Our Terms of Use are clear when you sign up to use this site.
Who do I contact if I feel I am being scammed, spammed, or inappropriately solicited?
We at RentSelect.com are very concerned about the perpetration of scams on the users of our website. We have implemented a user flagging system so that you can help us identify potential scammers or spammers and take appropriate action.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR: A common scam involves a prospective tenant sending a "Cashiers Check" or "Money Order" which is substantially higher than the deposit requested to hold the unit or room, and then requests that you western union or wire the extra funds somewhere else. In these cases the check is fake and you will have to pay back the funds to your bank.

NEVER: Agree to forward excess funds to another individual. Insist that any payments be made only in the amount necessary. For example: If the first months rent and deposit is $1,000, do not accept a check for $3,000. Instead insist that they only send you a check for the amount due.

WHEN IN DOUBT: Ask an employee of your bank to verify that a check is VALID and there are sufficient funds in the account. You can request this validation at any bank branch and it can save you time, hassle and most importantly YOUR MONEY.

What timeframe should I reasonably expect to find a suitable roommate match?
The amount of time depends on the personalities of both parties. Users who fill out their profiles with great detail and include photos, can reasonably expect to find more people that match what they are looking for and more quickly find the right situation.
What if I do not have an email address?
You will need an email address to complete the registration process with RentSelect.com. There are many websites who offer free email accounts such as Yahoo, Hotmail, etc. We have experienced issues with Comcast users getting our emails, so be warned that they may not come through to you, even if you just registered. We suggest using a different email.

Is there any way to check on the validity of another members posted profile?
You should exercise the same caution and judgment when interacting with another RentSelect.com user as you would with any other contact you make on the Internet (or in real life). Our service works extremely well for users who provide honest descriptions of themselves and the units or rooms which they have available - the vast majority of RentSelect.com members do exactly that. We work hard to identify and remove obvious falsehoods or offensive content, but unfortunately we have no means of detecting them all. So we must rely on our users good judgment in selecting potentially invalid profiles and flagging them for review by the RentSelect.com Moderators.
